Resident DirectorKey responsibilities include using a curricular approach, supervising staff, managing student conduct, and ensuring community safety. The resident performs crisis response, supports student wellness, leads educational programming, and maintains a visible presence on campus.ResponsibilitiesImplement a curricular approach in the development and education of a residential community ranging from 600-1,800 residents.Directly supervise, train, and evaluate 1-2 full-time professional staff (Assistant Resident Directors) and up to 30 paraprofessional student staff.Manage student conduct and students of concern case load for residents within the community.Provide after-hours crisis response and schedule on-call responsibilities for a neighborhood of 5,000-6,000 residents and a campus community of 10,000-11,000 residents.Coordinate with 60+ colleagues across the Residential & Community Living staff.Develop and implement a comprehensive educational plan aligned with the department's residential education goals.Foster belonging among all residents, especially underrepresented groups.Maintain a visible presence, supervise Resident Assistants, and oversee community operations.Participate in recruitment, training, evaluation, and support of staff.Serve as a first responder in community and campus crises; participate in special events.QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.Track record of integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles into daily work.Demonstrated collaborative work with a large, multifunctional department.Commitment to creating communities where residents feel a deep sense of belonging.Knowledge of residential curriculum campus experience.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree preferred.2+ years post-MA degree experience (preferred).1-3 years experience in counseling and student advising (preferred).1-3 years experience managing day-to-day operations of student housing (preferred).1-3 years previous student staff supervision (preferred).Special ConditionsFull-time, 12-month live-in position with on-call responsibilities; possible contract renewal up to 3 additional terms.Position may require night and weekend hours; furnished apartment included.UCSB Campus Security Authority under Clery Act.Requirement for satisfactory criminal history background check.UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.Handle sensitive information with discretion, following all relevant policies and laws.BenefitsSalary range $65,700–$67,200 per year, plus housing and a meal plan.
