Description

Adjunct Faculty within the College of Professional Studies (CPS) are critical to the success of UNE's programs. The role of the faculty in CPS is to facilitate the learning process for students through timely and effective instruction and communication. Instructors also serve as mentors, sharing their expertise to help guide students and ensure they achieve their educational and professional goals. Faculty foster student success and retention by creating a positive educational environment, allowing students to gain the maximum benefit from their coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert-level instruction in Principles of Human Nutrition (NTRN 1010)
  • Guiding students through key course outcomes, including:
    • Analyzing the processes involved in the body's handling of nutrients and alcohol, from consumption to waste excretion
    • Characterizing classes of nutrients based on function, deficiency/toxicity effects, and food sources
    • Applying biological, biochemical, and physiological principles to nutrition practice for individuals and communities
    • Analyzing the role of nutrition in health promotion and disease prevention to support evidence-based food choices
    • Evaluating dietary intake for nutritional adequacy and promoting healthy eating habits
    • Differentiating sound nutrition science from food faddism or fraudulent information and effectively communicating accurate practices
  • Providing timely responses to student inquiries (within 24 hours)
  • Hosting weekly virtual office hours
  • Maintaining strong communication and collaboration with program leadership
  • Engaging in best practices for online teaching and learning
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field required; Ph.D. or RDN credential preferred
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching in online environments desirable
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in nutrition and health fields
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Brightspace/D2L Learning Management System preferred
