The Painter is an in-house position within the Facilities & Fleet (F&F) Department responsible for addressing painting and surface-finishing needs across RHA Health Services facilities. This role supports the upkeep, safety, and appearance of residential homes, facilities, and administrative spaces by performing high-quality interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, and minor related repairs.

The Painter works collaboratively with Facilities leadership to assess project needs, recommend materials, and execute work efficiently while minimizing disruption to operations and individuals served. This position requires travels to RHA locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform interior and exterior painting projects across RHA residential homes, facilities, and administrative buildings.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, and priming walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and other surfaces.
  • Conduct minor drywall repairs, including patching holes, cracks, and surface imperfections prior to painting.
  • Perform light carpentry or minor maintenance tasks directly related to painting projects, as appropriate.
  • Assess job sites and develop material estimates and scope of work, including recommended paint types, quantities, supplies, and preparation needs for each project.
  • Assist with assembling supply lists and coordinating paint and material purchases in alignment with departmental processes.
  • Safely operate and maintain painting tools and equipment, including ladders, sprayers, rollers, and brushes.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, safety requirements, and infection control expectations appropriate for healthcare and residential environments.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas during and after project completion.
  • Project scope may vary from full facility paint refreshes to targeted patchwork and touch-up projects.
  • Coordinate work schedules with Facilities leadership to minimize disruption to operations and individuals supported.
  • Identify and report facility conditions or maintenance concerns observed during painting projects.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Facilities and operational needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional painting experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surface preparation, paint application techniques, and material selection.
  • Experience performing minor drywall repair and light maintenance tasks preferred.
  • Construction or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to assess job requirements and estimate materials and supplies needed.
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to painting, ladder use, and chemical handling.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple projects.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact professionally with staff and leadership.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple locations. Frequent travel is required.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring sustained physical activity, such as sitting, standing, walking, or repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to stand, climb ladders, lift materials, and work in occupied facilities.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and other peripherals.
  • Ability to lift and carry items within a reasonable weight range, if necessary.
  • Regular use of technology and exposure to prolonged periods of screen time.
