Role or Purpose of Position

Vitamin Angels is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for the Finance & Accounting department.

This new role within the Corporate Services team will report to the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting (SDFA) as well as work closely with the programs officers and the accounting team. This new role will lead and manage the accounting efforts of the programs department activities, specifically vendor management, invoice processing, forecasting and budgeting, and grant tracking and reporting.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the processing of the programs department AP invoices, including: detailed review and reconciliation of invoices and cash advances, ongoing communication and collaboration with program officers, in-country advisors, and the accounting team. Ensure accurate and complete AP program invoice processing in a timely manner.
  • Implement a new vendor and invoice management system, Omnidek, with the support of the accounting team and the SDFA, as well as develop SOPs and train users. Post implementation, provide ongoing management and monitoring of the Omnidek system, answer vendor and employee questions on the system, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Support the management and administration of the corporate credit card platform, specific to the programs department
  • Participate in the month-end close process, including reconciliations of balance sheet accounts relative to duties
  • Supporting role in annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting processes specific to the programs department
  • Assist with ongoing restricted grant tracking and reporting
  • Assist with annual audits
  • Other special projects, as needed

Level of Decision-Making

Within the bounds of VA's mission, values, and policies, and sound professional practices, the Senior Accountant has the discretion to use independent judgment to make decisions of significant consequence that affect VA clients, partners, and employees.

Organizational Relationships

VA operates under a collaborative, matrix management model. The Senior Accountant establishes their own daily work priorities and ensures that all responsibilities are conducted consistent with accepted best practices, sound professional judgment, and within the established schedule and budget.

Staff Accountant, Accounting Manager, Associate Director of Finance & Accounting, Senior Director of Finance & Accounting, Program Officers, In-Country Program Advisors, CFO

Travel required:

1-2 weeks/year for in-person meetings and/or conferences

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Minimum, Necessary, and Desired)

Minimum:

  • Minimum three years' accounting experience in a Staff/Senior Accountant (or similar) role
  • B.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline (accounting, finance) from an accredited university or relevant equivalent experience
  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced accounting/finance department, processing a high volume of transactions while managing competing priorities

Necessary:

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Experience processing AP invoices
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, preferably with global stakeholders
  • Experience implementing or supporting the implementation of new software
  • Experience writing SOPs and training colleagues outside of the accounting department and/or external stakeholders
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment
  • Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including vlookups and pivot tables
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to remain seated and/or stationary for extended periods of time, including but not limited to prolonged air travel, and general job assignments performed at a desk

Desired:

  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Nonprofit restricted grant tracking and reporting experience
  • Forecasting and budgeting experience
  • Sage Intacct experience (or similar cloud-based accounting ERP)
  • Workday Adaptive Planning experience
