Overview

Bruker is seeking an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to join Bruker Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) within Sustaining Engineering. You will lead supply chain enhancements, resolve end of life issues, and maintain optimal performance for production test equipment. This role supports electrical manufacturing within the Bruker AFM family.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the evolution of AFM system control and data acquisition electronics.
  • Support evaluation of alternative design approaches by performing analysis, modeling, and tests.
  • Support electronics design, analysis, prototyping, and system integration.
  • Select electronic components based on function, availability, reliability, and cost.
  • Work with functional teams to achieve reliable, manufacturable, serviceable, and testable designs.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies to objectively verify performance against requirements.
  • Design test fixtures to ensure compliance to product and manufacturing specifications.
  • Create product documentation, including BOMs, fabrication files, and assembly drawings.
  • Support product and regulatory compliance testing. Ensure compliance with internal and external standards where applicable.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and failure analysis for new and existing product lines.
  • Document project decisions and provide appropriate cross-functional team communication.
  • Serve as technical interface with 3rd party development partners and vendors to ensure quality.
  • Support New Product Introduction, Sustaining Engineering, and Quality Engineering activities.
  • Follow company policies and processes.
  • Support cross functional teams.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Support or lead supply chain improvement projects as needed.
  • Support production to achieve on time shipment (OTS) and revenue goals.
  • Design, develop, test, and qualify product and production improvements (tooling, fixtures, documentation).
  • Review and approve first article parts.
  • Solve end of life (EOL) issues for off-the-shelf components and find alternative components.
  • Create and improve drawings, documentation, work instructions, BOMs, and routings via Engineering Change Order process.
  • Contribute to and lead Material Review Board (MRB) for non-conforming materials.
  • Utilize corrective and preventive action (CAPA) to improve product and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and test electromechanical and electrical assemblies to support production.
  • Ensure and improve uptime for production test equipment and tooling.
  • Support cost reduction activities such as redesign, insourcing, outsourcing, and resourcing.
  • Initiate and contribute to product quality improvement activities.
  • Work with cross-functional NPI teams for New Product Development from Concept to Volume Production and End of Life phases.
  • Practice and promote DFx guidelines (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Reliability, and Service).
  • Provide feedback to design engineers during design reviews using DFx principles and lessons learned.
  • Lead process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (pFMEA) activities.
  • Complete manufacturing and quality engineering deliverables during all NPI phases.
  • Create and present progress reports, metrics, and PowerPoints for projects.
  • Create quality inspection plans and first article documents for new parts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in integration and verification of high-performance analog designs
  • Experience in FPGAs/microprocessor programming for high-performance applications
  • Experience in system controls (e.g., motion, feedback), data acquisition, and analysis
  • Experience in troubleshooting and debugging electronic circuits to the component level
  • Experience in printed circuit board design, analysis, assembly, test, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with OrCAD/Cadence Allegro, Altera/Quartus, and PSpice or similar
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in identifying and qualifying alternate components (for PCBAs and other electrical assemblies)
  • Experience in interpreting electrical schematics
  • Experience in creating and maintaining bills of material (BOM)
  • Experience in writing Engineering Changes
  • Experience in writing and editing work instructions and routings
  • Experience in preparing and presenting project updates and reports
  • Ability to work independently, be a strong team player, detail oriented, organized, and hands-on
  • Some travel to vendor and other international Bruker sites may be required (<5%)
  • Ability to make decisions, and effectively lead tasks and meet challenging deadlines
  • Ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with others
  • Ability to multi-task in a rapid paced environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronic design for scientific instrumentation, metrology equipment, or similar products involving high-performance control and data acquisition
  • Experience with power supplies (switching and linear) and high voltage designs
  • Experience with IPC, ISO and CE (EMC & Safety)
  • Experience with SAP (or a similar complex ERP system)
  • Experience in Solidworks, SolidEdge
  • Experience managing third party contractors
  • Familiar with ISO9001 requirements, continuous improvement, and Six Sigma principles
  • Experience in a similar, highly engineered, low volume, high mix, capital equipment environment that includes mechanical, electronic, and software composition
  • Experience in process-oriented business environment

Ability to lift 25lbs

Educational & Experience Requirements:

BS degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering. MSc degree or higher in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 2 years of experience in engineering.

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $95,400 and $160,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on factors including education, training, experience, geographic location, skills, and travel requirements. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive and benefits including 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, disability insurance, paid time off, and more.
