Description:

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing, constructing, or maintaining scientific apparatuses (e.g., cryostats, microscopes, electronics, sample packages, microwave signal chains, optical setups).
  • Experience working in multiple disciplines (fabrication, electronics, software, cryogenics, modeling, measurement) in support of project goals.
  • Experience using software for scientific apparatus control and data analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with microwave, RF, optoelectronic, optomechanical, or optical control or measurement.
  • Experience with control or characterization of quantum devices.
  • Experience with cryogenic or vacuum environments and equipment.
  • Experience with design and layout of microfabricated devices.
  • Experience publishing in scientific journals or presenting at conferences.

Google Quantum AI aims to build a large-scale, error-corrected quantum computer to solve classically intractable problems. Our focus is on advancing quantum computing capabilities and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time role is $141,000-$202,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary is role, level, and location-dependent, with individual pay influenced by skills, experience, and education. Recruiters will provide specific salary details during hiring.

Responsibilities include:

  • Characterizing readout and reset performance in superconducting qubit devices and modeling their behavior with theorists.
  • Implementing software for device characterization and experiments, integrating into automated calibration systems.
  • Developing hardware for readout and reset functions.
  • Communicating results within the team and the broader scientific community.
  • Investigating technological advances through literature and conferences to improve readout and reset processes.
